About Inka Tours
A Kigali-based tour operator built by Rwandans, for travellers who want the real country, not a rehearsed version of it.
Our Story
Started By People Who Never Left
Inka Tours was founded in Kigali by a small group of guides and logistics planners who had spent years working for foreign-owned safari companies, booking Rwanda's parks, permits and lodges for other people's brands. We started Inka Tours because we felt the country deserved an operator that was actually from here: one that answered the phone in Kigali, not a call centre three time zones away.
"Inka" means cattle in Kinyarwanda and the cow is a traditional symbol of wealth, respect and hospitality in Rwandan culture, historically given as a gift between families to mark trust (read more about the cow in Rwandan culture). We named the company after that idea. Every itinerary we build is, in a small way, an extension of that same gesture: we're inviting you into a country we love, and we want you to leave feeling like you understood it a little.
What We Believe
Our Values
Local First
Every guide, driver and office staff member is Rwandan. Every dollar you spend with us circulates through Rwandan households first.
Honest Planning
We tell you when a lodge isn't worth the price, when a park is quieter in a different season, and when a "must-see" isn't actually worth your time.
Real Accountability
One team follows your trip from enquiry to landing back home. If something goes wrong on the ground, the person who planned your trip is the person who fixes it.
Conservation-Minded
We pay park and permit fees in full, on time, every time. That's the mechanism that funds anti-poaching patrols and habitat protection across Rwanda.
Community Partnership
We route cultural visits, meals and craft purchases through cooperatives and small businesses, not tourist-trap intermediaries.
No Template Trips
We don't sell fixed packages with your name pasted on top. Every itinerary starts from a conversation about what you actually want.
Based In Kigali
A Team That Lives Where You'll Travel
Our office sits in Kigali, a short drive from the airport, and our guides are spread across the country's key regions: Musanze for gorilla trekking, Kibuye and Gisenyi along Lake Kivu, Kitabi for Nyungwe. That geography matters more than it sounds: when a road closes for repair, when a lodge changes ownership, or when a park adjusts its trekking rules, we hear about it directly, not from a head office overseas.
It also means we can be reached at odd hours. Flights get delayed, plans change, and Rwanda's weather occasionally has its own opinion about your itinerary. Whoever built your trip is reachable by phone or WhatsApp for the length of it, not a rotating support desk.
