Rwanda Cultural Tours
Royal history, living heritage and community visits that put income directly into the hands of the people who host you.
The Experience
Rwanda's Living Culture
Rwanda's pre-colonial kingdom left behind a distinctive cultural inheritance still visible today, from the graceful, high-stepping Intore dance (traditionally performed by warriors, now Rwanda's signature cultural showcase) to the King's Palace Museum in Nyanza, a reconstructed royal residence complete with the long-horned Inyambo cattle once kept for royal ceremony. A visit here, paired with a live Intore performance, is one of the most requested cultural additions to our itineraries.
Beyond royal history, we build in visits to artisan cooperatives producing traditional Agaseke baskets and Imigongo geometric art, community-run cultural villages where former poachers and ex-combatants now work as guides and performers, and market walks that put you in direct contact with daily Rwandan commerce rather than a curated tourist stall.
Cultural experiences pair naturally with a Kigali city tour or as a rest day between gorilla trekking and safari. See our cultural experiences guide for a deeper look.

Common Questions
Cultural Tours FAQ
Is the King's Palace Museum worth visiting?
Yes, it's a compact but rich stop, especially when paired with a live Intore dance performance, and gives valuable context for pre-colonial Rwandan society.
Are cultural visits respectful to local communities?
We route visits through established cooperatives and community organisations that set their own terms and receive direct payment, rather than informal arrangements that can feel extractive.
